Abstract
In recent years, developing countries are witnessing increasing changes in urban areas and rapid urbanization. These changes, along with climate change, have led to the creation and intensification of heat islands in cities. But green spaces can play a fundamental and vital role in reducing these heat islands by creating a platform for urban cold islands. These cold urban islands have positive effects on the urban environment through green and blue spaces. Among the importance of these islands, we can mention reducing the city temperature, controlling air pollution, maintaining thermal balance, biodiversity, and improving the quality of life of citizens. To investigate the effect of urban green spaces in reducing electric energy consumption and reducing urban heat islands, the present research has used satellite images and land use maps for certain periods of time. Also, the current research method is experimental and the urban cooling model of Invests software and GIS software have been used for analysis. The results show that large urban green spaces with high density, along with urban cold islands, play a significant role in reducing urban heat islands. Due to the growth and development of constructions in Zone 5 of Tabriz and the destruction of green spaces in recent years, the consumption of electrical energy to cool the environment has increased, especially in the hot seasons of the year, as we have seen the growth of 46 million KWH per hour in the last 20 years.
