Aims and Scope

Having straightforward access to spatial data and information at different levels is a critical and indispensable factor for increasing the productivity of the environment especially without any imposed damages to it. The quality of the data/information along with the swift accessibility of the data/information is deemed as determining parameters in the effectiveness and efficiency of the taken measures by the decision and policymakers. In today’s world, the majority of the up-to-date and high-quality data/information is procured by space missions and remote sensing satellites using new technologies.

Remote sensing plays a cardinal role in variegated fields of science by providing necessary data which is a must especially for Geo-related studies aimed at investigating and monitoring the earth’s features at temporal and spatial scales. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provides the scientific community with different sophisticated analysis tools and opportunities for making the required databases, manipulating and organizing data and information, implementing analysis, and reporting the results. In light of the vast application area of the remotely sensed data and GIS analysis in different disciplines such as mapping and photogrammetry, agriculture, forestry, city, and regional planning, geo-related surveillance, mineral excavations, etc., the journal of “Remote Sensing and GIS in Environmental Sciences (RSGISES)”, as the official journal of the department of remote sensing and GIS of the university of Tabriz, tries to provide a convenient platform to disseminate the latest developments in the field of remote sensing- and GIS-based applications within the scientific community as well as the high-level decision and policymaking officials. The central vision of this journal is to provide an environment to help promote the scientific knowledge and research capabilities of the researchers by circulating the latest findings in the environment-oriented applications of geomatics ranging from the integration of materials, instruments, methodologies, and technologies in the environmental sciences within both inside the country and abroad.
